AHEPA CONGRATULATES GREEK NATIONAL SOCCER TEAM

WASHINGTON--The members of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), the largest and oldest association of American citizens of Greek heritage and Philhellenes, extend their congratulations to the Greek National Soccer Team for its thrilling 1 - 0 victory over Portugal that captured the European Championship and electrified a nation, said AHEPA Supreme President A. Jack Georgalas.

"With an impenetrable defense, clutch scoring, and team discipline and unity, the Greek team triumphed," said Georgalas.

"We congratulate the entire team and its coach Otto Rehhagel for an inspiring tournament performance."

He continued, "We, in America, love the underdog or the long-shot. I know many Greek-Americans shared in the excitement of each match as they followed the Greek team to the best of their abilities, via satellite television or the Internet."

Georgalas added that Greece's European Championship has set the stage for what promises to be a memorable summer that will project Greece as a modern, vibrant nation for the world to witness.
