I
n late October, senior regional and national officers of the Pan-Macedonian Association Inc, of USA, had a working lunch with the new Consul General of Greece to Boston, the Honorable Constantinos Bikas.

The purpose of the luncheon, hosted by New England Region Governor Panos D. Spiliakos, was to welcome the new Consul General to Boston and review the so called "Macedonian" issue in light of the recently expired intermediate agreement between Greece and FYROM, and the new geopolitical circumstances in the area of the Balkans and greater Southeastern Europe. Other Hellenic issues were also reviewed.

Further, the Macedonian officers had an opportunity to brief Mr. Bikas on the upcoming - November 8-18 - Pan-Macedonian delegation pilgrimage to Athens, Constantinople and Cyprus which will be headed by Supreme President Nina Peropoulos with Past Supreme President Seraphim Papajiannis and Governor Panos D. Spiliakos representing New England. Mr. Bikas was also briefed on plans for the 57th Annual National Convention that will be held at the Newton Marriott Hotel, Newton, MA, July 2 to 6, 2003. Most importantly, Mr. Bikas was briefed of the relentless misinformation campaign on the Internet by FYROM and its expatriates.

The meeting was most productive and left all the Macedonians in attendance with the secure conviction that New England is fortunate, once again, to have another Consul General who will bring the Hellene Americans even closer to the land of their forefathers. "What do you expect," said one participant, "Mr. Bikas seems most cooperative, highly intelligent, knowledgeable, experienced -- and he chose Mrs. Maria Bikas, a Macedonian from Grevena, as his spouse. It is no secret that the Macedonians have always united the Hellenes."

Present at the luncheon also were, Supreme Secretary Nina Gatzoulis, Chairman of the upcoming (July 2003) 57th Annual National Convention Ioannis Katsaros, Assistant to the Governor of New England George Tsitsopoulos, Past Supreme Presidents George Papadopoulos, Athanasios Vulgaropulos and Seraphim Papajiannis, MD, and Chairman of the Internet Interface Committee of the Pan-Macedonian Association with the Hellenic Electronic Center (HEC) Bill Gatzoulis.
