This unique program will revive the lace making tradition in the village of Lefkara through the screening of an original documentary

which highlights and examines the historical development of this craft, the unique designs and techniques. Featuring also an exhibit of lefkara embroideries.

Lefkara lace, perhaps the best known Cypriot traditional embroidery, enjoys a worldwide reputation. It has evolved through the ages, having undergone changes

brought about by the history of the island. It is a very unique craft which expresses the cultural heritage of the women of Lefkara passed from one

generation to another and which has evolved in response to their environment. By studying its technique, motifs, local names, raw materials and designs,

one can find traces of the past which enable one to further discover the identity and history of Cyprus.

This program is under the auspices of the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater NY and it is part of the Cultural Month Events taking place in March

in celebration of Greek Independence day

It is made possible in part by Arch Capital Group (U.S), the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cyprus Federation of America.
