Music and Dining "Wonderful" at Ladies Philoptochos Society Event
The Holy Apostles Church in Haverhill, MA was the scene of a festive evening of Greek music and dining presented by the Ladies Philoptochos Society Elpis. The exuberant, capacity audience enjoyed a concert of Greek traditional songs and popular favorities, performed by the Hellenic and Near Eastern Musical Society Ensemble. The event raised support for the Society's philanthropic activities.

One of the largest philanthropic organizations in the U.S., Philoptochos (the word means "friends of the poor" in Greek) supports cancer research, assistance to refugees and victims of natural disasters, the St. Basil Academy for underprivileged children, Greek Orthodox church missions, and many other projects. In the words of Archimandrite  Makarios of the Holy Apostles Church, "the life of our parishes would really be in a sorry state if it were not for the Philoptochos Society."

Chairladies Virginia Tikelis and Cleo Tsolas led the very capable committee that organized and presented the dinner concert. "It was a successful event with a good turnout," Tikelis said. "The music and the dining were wonderful."

The committee also included Hope Greene, Fannie Ross, Marita Karampalas, Dora Karabetsos, Ethel Margaretos, Ethel Liapis, Liberty Tatarow, Effie Toulas, Athena Hasiandrou, Sandra Chopas, Nikki Karoutas, Pamela Noukas, Kiki Georgiadis, Maria Antonakis, Mary Drossos, and Emoufoula Gavrielides.

Among the sponsors of the event were Mary Comeau, Deno and  Bella Danos, Virginia Kassos, Pamela Noukas, Liberty Tatarow, Effie Toulas, and Rose Young.
