Greek Independence Day Program in Portland, Maine
|
|
The Greek School of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Portland, Maine has released the program for its annual Greek Independence Day celebration [Greek] [English]. Scheduled for 21 March 2009, this program is a public presentation by the students for the benefit of the school and the Greek community. Under the tutelage of Mrs. Angela Varipatis, students learn not only the rudiments of language structure and vocabulary, but they also learn about Greek history and culture. The Greek School of Holy Trinity has long been heralded as one of the most successful models in the country, having received top marks for many decades from leading representatives of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America in New York. Graduates from these classes have gone on to become linguistic specialists at the collegiate level. Fellow parishioners have honored Mrs. Varipatis and her husband, Demosthenes, for their steadfast dedication to the school and to the community; several years ago, the Varipatis couple received an award from the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston for their well-earned efforts. |
