Lynn Sherr



Lynn Sherr is a well respected, leading correspondent for one of the nation’s top news programs, ABC News’ 20/20. During the course of her journalistic career, she has earned innumerable awards for investigative reporting on a wide range of stories, with an emphasis on women’s issues, social changes, and national politics.

Recently, she hosted a television special about giraffes, following the publication of her book, Tall Blondes. Several years ago she traveled to Peru to interview two young American women jailed for smuggling drugs. For another award-winning story, she investigated and broadcast the amazing story of a homeless girl in New York who received a scholarship to Harvard. Ms. Sherr has uncovered fraud in corporations, reporting on the activities of HMO’s and the secret plans of companies to fire employees before they collect pensions. She is among a small handful of journalists who have anchored coverage of space shuttle activity, and delivered close-up reports on the space program. After the explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger, she obtained an exclusive interview with astronaut Sally Ride, a member of the Rogers Commission. Her work has brought to light the increase in HIV in older women, colon cancer battles waged by leading sports figures, and world advances in treating anorexia, among many other current issues.

Among her plethora of prestigious honors, she has received the American Women in Radio and Television Commendation Awards, AWRT Best-in-Show Award, the George Foster Peabody Award, the Santa Clara County Psychological Association Award, honors from the British Medical Association, the Cine Golden Eagle Award, the National Headliner Award, the Maggie Award from Planned Parenthood, an Excellence in Financial Journalism Award, the Gold Award from the National Mental Health Association, the Matrix Award from the New York Women in Communications, several Front Page and Silver Screen Awards, an Emmy Award, and an Ohio State Award for one of her PBS series.

In addition to her position as a leading correspondent for ABC News, she is the author of Failure Is Impossible: Susan B. Anthony in Her Own Words, co-author of Susan B. Anthony Slept Here: A Guide to American Women’s Landmarks, of a number of editions of “The Women’s Calendar,” and numerous articles in publications such as The New York Times, The New York Times Book Review, Saturday Review, Ms., Family Circle, and Mademoiselle.

Currently, she is a trustee of Wellesley College, where she earned her BA degree in Greek. Ms. Sherr is listed in Who’s Who in American Women.

Rouman Classical Lecture Series at the University of New Hampshire to a capacity crowd that will be talking about her appearance on campus for many years to come.
