PAN-MACEDONIAN ASSOCIATIONS MEETS WITH ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF THE STATE DEPARTMENT, MR. DANIEL FRIED

The leadership of The Pan-Macedonian Association USA expressed its satisfaction upon meeting with the Assistant Secretary of the State Department, Mr. Daniel Fried. The meeting was carried out in a positive climate on July 14, 2008, in Mr. Fried's office at the State Department. The Undersecretary mentioned that the name issue of the FYROM must be resolved as quickly as possible and he trusts that both countries will cooperate towards this goal. He also expressed his displeasure with FYROM's latest claims against Greece regarding the "refugee children," the nonexistent 'Macedonian' minority in Greece and the compensations of abandoned properties of communists who fled from Greece to iron curtain countries, after the civil war 1944-49 During the meeting he mentioned that he advised the FYROM leadership not to raise such unacceptable issues and that he will urge them again to let go of such baseless claims. Present at the meeting were Ms Gabriele Cowan, Senior Greek Desk Officer, Ms Catherine Fitzgerald, Office Director, Jonathan Davidson Chief of Staff in Congressman Sarbanes office, Supreme President Nina Gatzoulis, Supreme Vice-President Dr. Tony Papadopoulos and Bill Gatzoulis, Chairman of the Internet Committee of the Pan-Macedonian Association.
