Samuel Procopiou Passes Away


Samuel Procopiou, 80, of Meriden, husband of Georgia (Sakelarakis) Procopiou, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Polistipos, Cyprus on May 25, 1925, he was the son of the late Effie and Hajisavva Procopios. He was a lifetime member of the Connecticut Carpenters Union Local 24, and a member of the Meriden Chapter of Ahepa 126. He was a mentor to the handicap community by expressing his strength, faith, endurance, and patience. He was a man who suffered for many years but his love of life, family, and friends kept him going. His legacy will remain in our hearts forever.

Besides his wife, Georgia, he is survived by two daughters, Effie Procopiou of Meriden and Elaine P. Grossomanides and her husband, Costas of Wallingford; his grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeff Istas of Wallingford, Phillip and Jennifer Leonard of Meriden, Nick and Alex Grossomanides of Wallingford; and a great-granddaughter, Taylor Clinton of Wallingford. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews in Cyprus and the United States.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 9 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden, and at 10 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, New Britain. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 27 from 4 to 8 p.m. A Trisagion service will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 301 West Main St., P.O. Box 1753, New Britain, CT 06050.
