Southern New Hampshire University Receives $50,000 for Ethics Initiatives, Announces Fourth International Transparency Week

Manchester and Rye Beach, NH--Michelle Dunn, Associate Director of Communications and News Media at Southern New Hampshire University, recently announced that the university has received an additional gift of $50,000 from Christos and Mary Papoutsy for ethics initiatives in support of the university's ethics chair.

Christos Papoutsy, together with his wife, Mary, established the Christos and Mary Papoutsy Distinguished Chair in Ethics at Southern New Hampshire University in 2000. An alumnus of the school, Papoutsy has received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from SNHU. A business executive and ethicist, he has continued to write and lecture about business ethics and related issues here in the U.S. and in Europe. Mary Papoutsy, a classicist and researcher, lectures throughout the U.S. on Hellenic genealogy and serves as the publisher of an Internet-based news and information service, Hellenic Communication Service.

The ethics chair was established to support the university's mission to develop within its students the wisdom to lead ethical professional and personal lives. Ethics encompasses a wide range of topics, including social justice, human rights, corporate social responsibility, and those essential ideals that extend back to classical antiquity. The chair promotes these goals through teaching, community lectures, working with faculty and staff to enhance teaching and service, interacting with external constituencies, and playing a leaderhship role in ethics initiatives on campus and in the greater business community. Using the classics as a foundation and extending through contemporary writers and thinkers, the chair brings into the curriculum and the community a dialogue about the cultural, historical, and contextual intellectual traditions in which we exercise ethical choices.
