Fashion Show at St. Demetrios in Limelight

(HCS) SACO, Maine--On Thursday, May 4, 2006, the St. Fotini Ladies' Society of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church held its annual fashion show featuring the spring and summer collections of Saco Bay Classics and Alphie's Men's Clothing. It was a complete sellout once again, with more than 150 persons attended this elegant affair, coming from throughout Maine and New Hampshire. The local chapter of the ladies' Red Hat Society also attended, filling the hall with their colorful, trademark hats.

Saco Bay Classics and Alphie's presented a number of fashionable ensembles, from casually elegant to evening wear and swimsuits. Many of the ladies' pieces featured luxurious fabrics like silks and chiffons with exquisite detail-work. Ensembles featured in the show demonstrated their suitability for a wide range of ages and shapes.

The Fashion Show Committee, made up of Rhoda Conley, Helen Spirounias, and Vici Pomerleau, headed up by President Daphne Rioux, received rave reviews about the lines of clothing and scrumptious, gourmet dinner. Wait staff doubled as ushers, dressed in black-and-white tuxedoes: Sam Anagnostis, Steve Boucouvales, John Caras, Paul McDowell, and Paul Seltzer, Sam Anagnostis, Bruce Pomerleau, Chris Hadiaris, and Tom Carr.

Volunteers from the community modeled the elegant and stylish clothing, including some of the ushers. Among them were Paul McDowell, John Anagnostis, Sophia Ifantides, Michelle Boucouvales, Zaffie Hadiaris, Nicholas Nashi, James Vanites, and Kathryn Karvelas.

The event committee also planned and prepared the sumptuous three-course dinner. Tuxedoed waitstaff served patrons a favorite recipe of Rhodicia's Catering: Chicken Wrapped with Filo. This tasty entree featured chicken with mushroom, onion, and feta cheese--all wrapped in light filo dough pastry and topped with a mushroom and wine sauce. Buttered carrots with basil and rice finished out the main dish. Following the salad and entree, patrons feasted on galatoboureko, a traditional Greek custard topped with filo dough and honey.
