One of the finest Greek orchestras ever to play in New England during the 1940s and 1950s was The Talambekos Mandolinata, and they were in heavy demand throughout the northeast during those years. The members of the group were outstanding musicians in their own right and enjoyed playing together. The original musicians of this wonderful group were as follows: Tom Talambekos of Newburyport, MA, mandolin and leader of the orchestra; Peter Halkiotis, Haverhill, MA, mandolin and vocalist; Thomas Saffron, Ipswich, MA, guitar and lead vocalist; Arthur Sotiropoulos, Ipswich, MA, bouzouki; Anastasis Chirbinis, Newburyport, MA, drums and bass guitar. Four of the five members of the orchestra have passed on to the Symphony of Heaven. Mr. Thomas Soffron, is still living in Ipswich and is 90 years old.

It is important to note that the Mandolinata traveled to New York City in the 1950s to record many of their favorite selections. They sold countless numbers of records over the next few years to their loyal followers. Many of the records are still intact and they are truly collectors' items. Many people have also had audio tapes made from the original records.
