Virtuoso chanter and scholar Ioannis Arvanitis from Athens, Greece joins artistic director Alexander Lingas this January to co-direct a program of majestic chants for cathedrals and monasteries from the Eastern-Rite monastery of Grottaferrata (Kryptoferrė), near Rome.

Byzantium in Rome will draw from the many rich manuscripts of Byzantine music in Grottaferrata¹s scriptorium and library, including the Kanon in honor of St. Neilos, who founded the monastery in 1004. Grottaferrata became one of the most important outposts of Eastern Christian culture in the West, part of the Magna Graecia on Italian soil. Thanks to a generous grant from the A. G. Leventis Foundation, Cappella Romana will help celebrate the millennium of the monastery by recording this program for future CD release.

Cappella Romana is proud to announce the release of its second recording on Gothic Records, Epiphany: Medieval Byzantine Chant. Available for signing by Ioannis Arvanitis and Cappella Romana singers at the concerts.

This program will also be performed in Victoria, BC. Concert details
