On Sunday, May 29, 2005 the Greek-American Nursing Home Committee will hold a family picnic on the center grounds to raise funds. Members of the committee plan for a fun-filled outing on the lovely property, eight acres of land with lake views. All friends, family, and supporters are invited to attend, as well as the general public. The picnic will feature an exciting raffle for fabulous prizes, including a 2005 BMW automobile, $5000 cash, a gold Rolex watch, a $1000 financial plan, a pair of round-trip airline tickets on British Air, a ladies mink coat, and a 7-day stay at a World Gold Crown Resort. Only 600 $500 tickets will be sold on first-come basis. With the proceeds, the committee hopes to raise $300,000 to help with the financial recovery of the center. The committee has recently hired a new Executive Director, John Koch, with over 20 years' experience in the healthcare industry. As a result of this move, Mr. Koch has been able to streamline operations so that the center can reduce its expenditures, while maintaining excellent care for residents. Upon his recommendation, the committee plans to evaluate the feasibility of adding an in-house Physical, Occupatsional and Speech Therapy Department which could help the center realize a net profit annually. Located in Wheeling, Illinois (just 40 minutes north of Chicago), the facility is a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center, offering 204 beds in its four-storey building, with custom-decorated semi-private and private rooms. Its services are "comprehensive and include a full range of rehabilitative therapies, including physical, occupational, and speech therapy, long and short term nursing care, hospice care, memory loss and vacation care." The fourth floor "Village" is dedicated to residents diagnosed with Alzheimer's and dementia. The ReGenesis Center on the third level is "reserved for individuals recuperating after surgery, stroke or a fall; ReGenesis provides both occupational and physical therapy." Built in March 2002 by the Greek American community of the Midwest and operated by the Greek American Nursing Home Committee, this facility boasts an Orthodox Chapel, an ice cream parlor and gift shop, beauty salon, and a lovely patio facing Arcadia Lake, in addition to customary heatlh-care features. A 501C(3) not-for-profit corporation whose mission is to provide quality care with genuine hospitality. the centre represents the realization of a long-held dream by Greek immigrants in the Midwest for many decades. According to the committee, the Greek American Rehabilitation and Nursing Centre "has at its core a deep and abiding commitment to community, culture, faith and dignity of the disabled, ill or older person. Through dedication to quality programs and services for all our elders and their families, the center acknowledges respect for the individuality and independence of each person in its care."
