Reviews of Holy Theological School of Halki: Ecumenical Patriarchate of Orthodox Christianity Under Siege
|
- Under Siege: Halki and the Ecumenical Patriarchate--a Book Review by Dr. Anthony G. Ziagos, Sr.
"This complex International crisis involves several countries, religious freedom, and the issue of basic human rights. The book provides detail documentation and research regarding the mechanics of how the School was founded, operated, and subsequently closed by the Turkish Government. This multi-faceted deep seated issue partially stems from the lack of recognition and respect for the sovereignty of the Ecumenical Patriarchate as the world leader of millions of Orthodox Christians. . . . Chris Papoutsy in his research exposes on going bias within the Turkish Government." Read more.
- Alumni Association of Halki Theological School Reviews Ecumenical Patriarchate of Orthodox Christianity Under Siege [in Greek].
"In his book, "Ecumenical Patriarchate of Orthodox Christianity Under Siege: The Holy Theological School of Halki," [Papoutsy] charges the Turkish government with systematic violations of basic human rights, citing regulations of the United Nations, whose systematic record [of these violations] continues. And finally, [the author] demands that the Turkish Government open the doors of the Theological School." Read entire review [in Greek].
- "The Prophet Muhammad Wrote on AD 628: "Christians Are My Citizens: and by Allah! I Hold Out Anything that Displeases Them." Journalist and Author Andrew Leech Reviews Under Siege
"The. . . book, UNDER SIEGE, apart from giving full details of all the pressures and religious discrimination practised against the Holy Theological School of Halki by the Turkish government (that totally violate the Lausanne Treaty of 1923 which, among other articles, covers free exercise of religion and full protection for religious establishments), absolutely astounded me by publishing a letter from the Prophet Muhammad: the Charter of Privileges to Christians that was given to the Monks of St Catherine’s Monastery in AD 628. It so impressed me that I would like you to share it with you. . . . " Read entire review.

- "It’s a monumental work and one I haven’t been able to put down ever since I received . . . [a] copy. . . . The effort involved in assembling the treasure trove of material is remarkable, and speaks to the importance of what you’ve done. Moreover, the amazing plethora of photos heretofore unseen by us gives added life to the printed word. And although one is left with a feeling of sadness at the plight of this incredible institution as one reads your book, a sense of resolve encompasses the reader when he realizes what remains to be done.--James Rouman, M.D.
- "I just finished reading your latest book Ecumenical Patriarchate of Orthodox Christianity Under Siege. Stylishly written and overflowing with drama, pathos, and love, here is a matchless account and history of a forgotten Orthodox microcosm of Byzantium, Halki. The information and many documents which you have presented will certainly influence the international powers to enlighten the Turkish government to 'Unlock the Doors of the Theological School of Halki.' Congratulations!"--Dr. John Rouman.
