Helen Demos Papoutsy Passes Away

Portsmouth, NH, and Haverhill, MA—Holy Apostles Saint Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church of Haverhill, Massachusetts, was filled on Thursday morning, March 20, 2003, with friends and relatives who attended the funeral services for Helen Demos Papoutsy. Officiants were His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios of Boston, Rev. Fr. Athanasios Demos, Chancellor of the Metropolitanate of Boston, Very Rev. Archimandrite Makarios J. Niakaros of Haverhill, Massachusetts, Rev. Fr. Anastasios Coulouras of Laconia, New Hampshire, Rev. Fr. George D. Tsoukalas of Lynn, Massachusetts, and Rev. Fr. Angelo Pappas of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Following a funeral service with Byzantine chanting by all of the officiants, and an inspiring eulogy by His Eminence, the congregants and family proceeded to Linwood Cemetery of Haverhill for the interment. A mercy luncheon was served in the community hall of Holy Apostles, where numerous moving tributes were given to the recently deceased by friends and family. One especially striking tribute, sent from the president of the Vatoussa Revitalization Foundation in Lesvos, Mr. Christos Stavrakoglou, was read aloud and translated into English by Professor Nina Gatzoulis of the University of New Hampshire.
Official condolences were also received from Rev. Fr. Evangelos Ververis, representing the church community of Koimisis Tis Theotokou (Dormition of the Virgin Mary) in Vatoussa, Lesvos, from the Ekpolitistikos Syllogos ton Apantahou Vatousaion, represented by Ioannis Manoukas and Mihalis Mihalakellis, from the president of both the Topiko Symvoulio tis Vatousas and the Politistikos Exoraistikos Syllogos Vatousas “Metamorfosis,” Avel Spanellis.
